Abstract Civil infrastructure such as bridges undergo deformations displacement and strain due to environmental temperature variations. Temperature causes equal or larger than that traffic load on bridges. This research evaluates whether the can be minimised by incorporating photovoltaic solar panels bridge surface. The attached truss, piers, periphery of deck excluding pavement, i.e., superstructure elements under direct avoid wear tear panels. hypothesis is will generate electricity from radiation underneath experience less load. truss smaller thereby increasing its lifespan. tested with a laboratory experiment truss. Results have shown 34.0% reduction in installation has been also reduced 15–25.6%. shows benefit integrating renewable energy means reduce temperature-induced structural deformations.
